There is a great community of creative people at Monte Vista Christian School in Watsonville, California, and the evidence is in the performing arts program. This private Christian school in Santa Cruz offers classes in choir, theatre, instrumental music, and advanced vocal training. This Morgan Hill area school boasts a thriving middle school and high school theatre program in which students can work together to put on stellar plays and musicals in the 450-seat performing arts center. Even during the pandemic, when there were hybrid-classes and only about half the student body could be on campus at any given time, this top drama and music program managed to put on several polished productions, including You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, Schoolhouse Rock, and Little Women. Due to some students learning strictly online due to the pandemic, the director of Schoolhouse Rock met some of the performers for the first time during the dress rehearsal. Even with the limitations of a difficult year, this Gilroy area performing arts theatre program managed to pull off impressive performances. Director of Fine Arts Morgan Matos shares, “Our students are enthusiastic and are hungry for more. Our classes are full and our programs are growing.”
